The Cowboy Way of Life | SONG

The Cowboy Way of Life
Written by: Christopher Williams

Well, I was standing there in line
Behind an old cowboy friend of mine
I could hear it all a little too well
As all my friend's wife did was yell
They tell you that cowboy's never cry
But truth be told, that's just a lie

It's just the cowboy way of life
That takes it's toll on the wife
It's the broken bones and the blood
And falling face first in the mud
That lets you know that you're alone
That makes you start missing home

I watched him as he hung up the phone
And I grew a little worried to call home
I had no idea what I would even say
So I turned around and simply walked away
I felt the dust kicked up by the strong wind
I felt lonesome, not knowing when I'd call again

It's just the cowboy way of life
That takes it's toll on the wife
It's the broken bones and the blood
And falling face first in the mud
That lets you know that you're alone
That makes you start missing home

With every ride, I was banged and bruised
With every win, I could only think of you
So after my final ride, I dialed home
I kept praying that you'd pick up the phone

It's just the cowboy way of life
That takes it's toll on the wife
It's the broken bones and the blood
And falling face first in the mud
That lets you know that you're alone
That makes you start missing home

"Hello, baby, you've been gone for too long
Don't you worry, now come on home."

Nice song. Looking to be the next George Strait?

Maybe I am. But he doesn't write his own songs. I'm glad you thinks it's nice.

I find it interesting. The angle's good too. What inspired it though? Sounds like the persona's at war or somethin'.

Well, some George Strait songs and Chris LeDoux songs have the cowboy's losing their girls. I thought "what if I was the one listening to this happen?" So, I wrote a song about that. It's something different in view of those kind of songs. Usually the girl leaves and the cowboy moves on with his rodeo. I wanted a different story. Its more about a woman who is holding on than the cowboy being scared.

That's a very different angle indeed. Good one too, don't think many looked at it from the woman's POV. Got a tune for it yet?

Not yet. I think 28 Days is the only one with any guitar play in it, cuz I had been toying with a intro and some chords which I could work into a song. It fit perfectly with 28 days, which I had written shortly after working on the chords.
